2016 Barbera Reserve
Rich and fruity with the perfect balance of acidity and weight. Notes of huckleberry, bittersweet chocolate, violets and ripe blueberries.
Tasted 1/8/20:
Color: dark/deep raspberry with a garnet rim
Nose: leather, earth, red peppercorn, cocoa nibs, glycerin, black plum, tobacco leaf, graphite/stone...
Palate: intense chocoalte (98% D.C.), sharp/angular, sweet/tart raspberry, earth/dirt, dry finish, a bit floral - purple flowers like violet, focused finish.
Ripe aromas of black raspberry, plum, and fig jam merge with notes of cocoa, leather, and hints of sweet tobacco. The palate gives way to luscious plum, blackberry, and fig, with sweet smokey notes that ride along velvety tannins with a full mouthfeel. Medium+ acidity and alcohol creates balance and a savory finish.
